RoadWashoutTraffic is now moving — slowly — on Highway 550 in Gros Cap. OPP say Transfield remains at the scene and traffic is getting through — but it is on an alternating basis, first eastbound then westbound traffic.  Police had closed 550 west of Douglas Drive because one lane was washed out before 9 last night.  City Police had mentioned in an earlier release that the washout had also put a major water pipeline in jeopardy — that pipeline reportedly supplies the City of Sault Ste. Marie with the majority of its water.  The affected main runs under the highway.  There have been no reports of any affect on the water quality or distribution involving that main.  It’s still not known when that road will be completely open to traffic.
