SSMPSCity Police responded to a pair of calls yesterday involving forged cheques.  In the first instance, an investigation revealed that a cheque allegedly had a forged signature on it.  It was also determined that the accused had attempted the same actions between February and June of this year.  The accused — a 45 year old female — faces two counts each of uttering a forged document, knowingly making a false document and theft under five thousand dollars when she appears in WASH Court today.  In the second case, it’s alleged that a male attempted to cash a cheque that was known to be forged.  The accused was arrested and will appear in court on November 2nd.

Police also responded to two incidents of theft yesterday.  Officers arrested a woman just before noon regarding a theft at a local grocery store.  It’s alleged that she stole merchandise totalling over 100 dollars.  Police also attended the Cambrian Mall and charged a man with theft under 5 thousand dollars.  According to police, it’s alleged that the accused — 34 year old Craig Smith — concealed an item on his person and left the store without paying for it.  Both accused will appear in court on October 26th.

Sault Police were called to the area of East Balfour Avenue after midnight last night regarding a possible impaired driver.  On attending, police located a male near a vehicle in the ditch.  It’s alleged that the driver swerved to avoid a cat and went into the ditch.  The male accused was given a road side test and failed.  He was then given another test at police headquarters and failed again.  31 year old John Kalomiris faces a charge of having care and control of a motor vehicle while impaired when he appears in court on October 26th.
