United Steelworkers Local 22-51 President Mike Da Prat believes the members of the Local will provide the negotiating team with a strong strike mandate when a strike vote is held next Tuesday.
Da Prat also says his members are also solidly behind the idea of working together with Steelworker Union Local 27-24 which represents around 600 salaried workers at Essar Steel Algoma during negotiations.
Both Locals wanted joint negotiations when it comes to monetary items but the company has said no.
27-24 President Lisa Dale says the two Locals will be looking to work around that…

 

That means represenatives will sit in on the others negotiations as advisors.
Local 22-51 is holding information meetings with its 21-hundred members today to update them on negotiations and Da Prat while speaking with reporters following a morning session provided this tight time line…

 

The Court monitor Ernst and Young stated in a court filing last month that all parties needed to find a way to reduce expenses on an annualized basis for Essar Steel Algoma by over 22-million dollars by March 15th.
