What’s in a name?
City council will be exploring the question when it comes to the Essar Centre when it meets on Monday night.
Sault Ste. Marie’s downtown gem and home to the Greyhounds became known as the Essar Centre in July of 2008 when the city entered into a 10-year agreement with the local steelmaker for the naming rights providing the City 1.5-million dollars.
City staff has laid out a plan to follow in terms of finding a new corporate sponsor.
It’s recommended that city staff carry out an RFP process rather than hiring an outside firm and city staff is also proposing that the Request for Proposal process include a minimum fee of 150-thousand dollars annually for the naming rights and that any new name include Memorial Gardens after the sponsor’s name.
