The Director of Human Resources for Sault College says they have seen about a 30% increase in students dropping out of full time programs this year compared to last year following a five-week faculty strike.
It’s now the third week that students have returned to class following the work stoppage and Wednesday was the deadline for students to apply for a tuition refund. Rick Webb talks about the impact felt locally following a five-week faculty strike…

Webb says that 30% increase represents 85 students.
He explained that in past years and without the impact of strike, our local college experiences students pulling out of full time programs——last year that figure was 170—-this year it increased by 85 to 255.
Webb says they have had some success in convincing students to return…

He says students that applied received a full refund except for their health insurance fees which is paid to a private insurance company—-a one time fee that is non-refundable.
More than 23-hundred students had enrolled for the fall semester at Sault College.
