City council passed a resolution last night calling for a report looking at the idea of making available warming shelters in the Sault during extreme cold weather.
Currently both Sudbury and North Bay provide for warming shelters during cold periods but our city’s current emergency plan only provides for such shelters in the event of widespread power outages.
Ward 3 Councillor Matthew Shoemaker and Ward 4’s Rick Niro are behind the resolution which calls on city staff in conjunction with any other service provider who wishes to participate, bring forward to Council a cold weather response plan to help protect the most vulnerable in the City from the extreme cold weather.
