The Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie is celebrating its 100th anniversary by giving back $100,000, through its program Rotary Gives 100, to the community that has supported its efforts for a century.
On Friday, Rotarians Robert and Donna Carricato represented the club while presenting Searchmont No Limits Adaptive Ski Association with a cheque for $2,500.
“This generous donation from the Rotary Club will be used to reduce barriers to participation in our adaptive ski program,” shared the ski association’s President, Kees van Frankenhuyzen, “Contributions like this allow us to subsidize skiers who cannot pay, provide free transportation from home to hill, and on-hill attendant services. Thank you Rotarians!”
No Limits Adaptive Ski Association’s mission is to provide persons with disabilities the sport of alpine skiing in a safe environment. The volunteer organization is dedicated to ensuring that all people of all abilities have the opportunity to try the sport of alpine skiing.
“This program builds confidence and allows the participants to experience freedom and experience skiing for the first time,” shared Jane Martynuck, whose son Ben is a participant, “As a parent I cannot put a price on hearing our son’s laughter and seeing his smile as he comes flying down the hill.”
“Supporting children with physical disabilities has been our club’s charitable mandate since almost the very beginning,” explained Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie’s President, Brent Lewis, “we are grateful to our community for supporting us, and for giving us the opportunity to celebrate our 100 year anniversary by giving away $100,000 towards deserving projects.”
Rotary Gives 100 donations totalling $32,335 have been made to support local families of children with physical disabilities with their unique needs, including the purchase of bathing equipment, a hospital crib, necessary accessibility alterations to homes, and children’s hearing devices.
For 100 years, the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie has fostered service, leadership, and good works in our community. Founded in 1918, our mandate to support children with physical disabilities has been the heart behind the hard work of hundreds of Rotarians spanning generations.
It is only because of dedicated Rotarians, tireless volunteers, and our extremely generous community that the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie has had the privilege to give back millions of dollars and touch countless lives. Thank you for being part of our first 100 years of service.
