Details

Safe Communities and Algoma Power Inc. have teamed up with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Sault Ste. Marie Police Services (SSMPS), Anishinabek Police Services, and Batchewana Police Services, and they are looking for youth who are “playing safe” in our community.

This program encourages youth to develop positive safety habits by wearing the proper protective equipment while enjoying outdoor activities such as riding their bicycles, roller blading, and skate boarding and general outdoor activities. Police officers will be on the lookout for children who are playing safe and obeying all the safety rules. Officer’s on patrol will be presenting children with a certificate and coupon (courtesy of Algoma Office Equipment) that can be redeemed for an ice cream treat (courtesy of Timberland General Store, Lock City Dairies – Holy Cow Ice Cream Parlor, Big Arrow Variety, The Store at Noel’s Place and Young’s General Store in Wawa).

Youth will also receive a ballot that can be dropped off at the above locations for a chance to win 10 bikes (donated by Algoma Power Inc.) and helmets (donated by Canadian Tire). The winners will be presented with their bike at their school at the beginning of the new school year in September. The play safe program wants all children to have a happy and safe summer!
