SaultMISault, Michigan City Commissioners voted on two property issues on Monday night.  The commission voted to move forward with a bid from local business owner Dan Arbic of 40 thousand dollars for 8 acres of land from the city.  The subject property on the southwest corner of West 8th Avenue and Meridian Street would be the site of as many as 76 apartments.  The commission also approved first reading for a rezoning of about 2 acres of land.  The property includes close to a dozen lots between Fort Street and Magazine Street, north of Sheridan Drive.  They would become multiple family residential lots, allowing about 53 single bedroom or 40 two bedroom units.  A second reading and public hearing is scheduled for the next Commission meeting on April 20th.

Honour, integrity and a fighting spirit.  That’s how Sault Mayor Tony Bosbous described the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association JV State Champion Sault JV Firehawks.  The Firehawks earned the state title in Big Rapids on March 22nd after defeating Alpena 2 to 1 in the final.  City Commissioners took a moment to shake hands and congratulate each player and coach with the Firehawks.  A sign at the city entrance recognizing the team’s accomplishment may be in the works after Mayor Bosbous made the suggestion on Monday.
