ssmpucThe Sault PUC released its latest water quality improvement project update this week.  In its report, the PUC mentions that it is exploring options to replace the capacity of the Lorna Wells, improve water reserve contingencies and meet demands for future development.  Two solutions are being considered:  increasing the groundwater well production using new or existing wells and increasing the production capacity of the existing water treatment plant.  The report also mentions that the latest Ipsos-Reid survey measuring public satisfaction with the water quality will be conducted in late 2015.  This follows a similar survey done last May. Included in the report is an update on the Unidirectional Flushing Program.  According to the PUC, the program resumed on May 12th in the Manitou Park area and will continue in the city’s east end through the summer and fall.  It was also mentioned that the final step in commissioning the newly installed soda ash system at the water treatment plant has been completed.  The system is the final advanced treatment method prescribed in Stage 1 of the Water Quality Improvement Project.  More information on both the project and unidirectional flushing program can be found on the PUC website.
