Supplied by Sault MPP David Orazietti… Sault Ste. Marie – Ontario is helping more seniors in Sault Ste. Marie stay engaged in the community by doubling the investment in the Seniors Community Grant Program from $1 million to $2 million, David Orazietti MPP, announced today. “Seniors have contributed greatly to this region, and it’s important that their contributions are celebrated,” said Orazietti.  “We are pleased to support these local projects in Sault Ste. Marie that help seniors continue to participate in the community they helped build.” As part of the Action Plan for Seniors, the Seniors Community Grant Program provides funding to not-for-profit community projects across the province that foster volunteerism, social inclusion and community engagement for seniors. This year, the program is providing three local organizations with $12,358 in provincial funding for the following projects: ” $6,380 Ontario Bushplane Heritage and Forest Fire Education Centre for Canadian Bushplane Volunteer Workshop Days ” $2,982 Safe Communities Partnership for Senior Community Engagement Conference ” $2,996 Sault Ste. Marie YMCA for Can Fit Pro Conference and Equipment This program is part of the government’s four-part plan to build Ontario up. The plan includes investing in people’s talents and skills, making the largest investment in public infrastructure in Ontario’s history, creating a dynamic, supportive environment where business thrives, and building a secure savings plan.

” June marks the 31st annual Seniors’ Month in Ontario. ” The Seniors Community Grant program has already supported 179 not-for-profit projects that encourage greater social inclusion and has helped over 43,000 seniors in 2014-15. ” As of 2015, for the first time, people over 65 account for a larger share of the population than children under 15.
