City council has given its approval for city staff to enter into a lease and operating agreement for the restaurant and lounge of the John Rhodes Community Centre.
Council during last night’s meeting accepted a recommendation to go with the bid submitted by Jody Wilson the former owner of Chilly Willy’s Sports Bar and Grill—–Wilson ran Chilly Willy’s at the Rhodes location from 2011 to ’14.
He plans to name the restaurant Icebreakers Sports Bar and Grill and has renovation plans for the facility that will honour local hockey heroes and legends.
A report to council indicates that further discussions will be needed to finalize renovation plans and confirm costing.
The agreement is for 7 years with an option to renew for another five years that will provide the City with 40-thousand dollars in annual payments and close to 17-thousand dollars in taxes.
