Sault Ste. Marie, ON (2018 09 11) – The City of Sault Ste. Marie is pleased to offer a variety of online services for voters for the upcoming 2018 Municipal Election. Electors can visit www.saultstemarie.ca/election for all their 2018 Municipal Election needs. Under the Voter Services tab, electors can add themselves to the voters list, determine their voting location and view the candidates running in their ward. Additionally, residents can check to see which ward they live in under the new five-ward boundary system.
“Residents and businesses can expect some changes for the 2018 Municipal Election and we are happy to offer the ‘Voter Services’ tab on our website to assist with the process. It is important that electors familiarize themselves with the information as soon as possible to allow ample time to make changes or updates to the Voters List if needed. The online Voter Services tab is a convenient tool to see who is running in your ward, locate the voting station where you will cast your vote, determine what ward you live in and to ensure that you are on the Voters List.” says Malcolm White, Deputy CAO and City Clerk.
Voters are reminded that the number of wards has been reduced from six to five, which takes effect on December 1, 2018 when the new 2018-2022 term of City Council begins. Two members of Council will represent each of the five wards. The Mayor is elected at large. Electors are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the new ward boundaries prior to October 22.
Voters are encouraged to use the Voter Services tab on the City’s website to see if they are on the Voters List. This tool can be used to add a name to the list or amend voter information.
Voting Day is Monday, October 22, 2018. For more information visit www.saultstemarie.ca/election or phone the City Clerk’s Department at 705-759-5388.
