On Tuesday January 29th, 2019 at approximately 1:15 p.m. officers with the Break and Enter Unit of The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service attended 629 Queen Street West regarding a possible wanted person.

Upon arrival, officers located a female, later identified as 40 year old Cheryl Tookenay of no fixed address outside of the residence. At that time, Ms. Tookenay was wanted on an outstanding warrant breach of undertaking and officers took her into custody.

As officers approached, a male inside later identified as 34 year old Ryan Elliott of no fixed address, positioned himself behind a wall in the residence. From behind the wall, the accused raised a long barreled object and pointed it at officers.

Officers retreated to a safe distance where they contained the residence. Officers with the Emergency Services Unit Patrol Services Division and Investigation Services Division were called in to assist and the area was blocked off. The accused soon after willingly exited the residence and was taken into custody.

The residence was secured and officers obtained a search warrant. When the warrant was executed officers discovered that the object was a long hollow black metal pipe that very closely resembled a shotgun barrel.

It was found that at the time, the accused was wanted on an outstanding surety revocation warrant and failing to attend court. He has also been charged with one count of assault with a weapon and 2 counts of breach of recognizance. He will appear in bail court today and the investigation is continuing.
