Sault Ste. Marie: The St. Mary’s College Knights Dance Team put in a stellar performance at the
“Kick It Up” dance competition earlier this month.
The team represented their school with class and achieved amazing results competing against a
variety of dance studios from across Southern Ontario. Not only were they the only high school
dance team, they were also the only group presenting dance routines that were student
choreographed.
The SMC team received one Platinum and four Ultimate Platinum standings. They were also
presented with a number of special awards and top scoring awards. The pre-competitive lyrical
group received the “Easy Feel” award for their beautiful movement and emotion. “Best
Choreography” was awarded to the contemporary small group, which was also a great
accomplishment for our student choreographers, Olivia Vecchio, Kiera Czop and Gracie Pucci.
The team’s competitive lyrical group was awarded a top scoring award for the “3rd Overall
Highest Scoring Large Group”. Finally, their competitive jazz routine received the “NSYNC”
award for their clean lines and great timing, as well as two top scoring awards; “2nd Overall
Highest Scoring Large Group” and the “Highest Scoring Jazz Routine of Competition”.
“Congratulations to all dance team members for their amazing performances. A special
congratulation goes out to team captain Olivia Vecchio, co-captain Kiera Czop, as well as cochoreographers Gracie Pucci, Megan Morgenstern and Julia Lemieux. Their maturity,
dedication, and creative talents resulted in outstanding success for the team,” said teacher
moderator Tara Calvano.
