City council has given its approval for a new model of tourism and economic development in our City which in part will see staff from both the local EDC and Tourism Sault Ste. Marie become city employees.
The existing non-profit economic development corporation will continue to exist and that a new tourism non-profit will be established with a board of directors.
City CAO Malcolm White told council at last night’s meeting that the boards for each entity will be made up of nine members and none will involve council members or city staff.
The new tourism board will be made up of 5 from the accommodation sector and 4 for the tourism sector.
Staff impacted are aware of the changes ahead and they will become city employees as of the new year.
There is a chance there could be some staff cuts following a review of possible staff redundancies in the changes.
