City council gave its approval at last night night’s meeting to a new agreement between our City and Prince Township for the provision of policing services.
City councillors Matthew Scott and Rick Niro voted against approving the new agreement saying the compensation provided to our City should better reflect the actual per-capita cost per resident in Prince Township equal to what Sault residents face.
Under the agreement, the initial year’s revenue is 175-thousand dollars which will increase in each subsequent year based on the consumer price index in Ontario.
A report to council explained there are no incremental costs to the Police Services by providing policing to the Township and Mayor Provenzano says historically, it hasn’t cost 175-thousand dollars to provide policing services to their community.
The revenue received is therefore net revenue and would have to be paid by City taxpayers if there was no agreement.
