(BATCHEWANA FIRST NATION, ON) – On May 6, 2020 at approximately 10:30 a.m. members from the Sault Ste. Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Sault Ste. Marie Crime Unit responded to a report of a sexual assault that occurred in the Pow Wow Grounds on Gran Street, Batchewana First Nation. The Forensic Identification Services – Support Services (FISS) of the OPP has assisted with the investigation and a composite sketch of the suspect has been completed.

 

The investigation has since revealed that a female was alone when she was approached by an unknown male and was sexually assaulted in the early morning hours. The male fled the scene on foot.

 

The identity of the assailant is unknown so the OPP reminds all members of the public to be aware of their personal safety at all times and to be extremely vigilant when approached by unknown individuals.
