(SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – May 5, 2015): Today, Algoma University is pleased to welcome secondary school guidance counselors from across Northeastern Ontario to campus for Regional Dialogue 2015.
Every year the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) coordinates seven Regional Dialogues across Ontario. Regional Dialogues see representatives from all 20 Ontario universities, plus the Royal Military College, travel across the province to meet with guidance counselors in their home regions. At the Regional Dialogues, university representatives provide updates on admissions, academic programs, and new facilities. Guidance counselors then have the opportunity to ask questions of specific universities or the entire group.
“Regional Dialogues provide an opportunity for guidance professionals to have dedicated time with university representatives,” said Brent Krmpotich, Director of Student Recruitment at Algoma University. “When university representatives visit high schools in the fall everyone is so busy that it is difficult to sit down and have a conversation. Regional Dialogues provide a forum for university and secondary school representatives to have a thorough discussion of topics affecting their work.”
This year’s dialogue will kick off with a plenary address from Phil Hedges of the Ministry of Education. The plenary address will be followed by two panel discussions and a university fair. The day will conclude with tours of Algoma University.
Algoma University hosts a Regional Dialogue every third year.
