SaultTribeThe Sault Tribe Cultural Division is getting a 24 hundred dollar grant from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs.  The money will be used to implement Project Jiingtamok.  It’s an idea aimed at engaging at-risk youth with Anishinaabe art and culture.  The grant was one of nearly 500 applications to compete for funding for this year.  Sixty-four at-risk youth will be paired with volunteers who will assist them in creating a shawl or vest for their first community powwow.  The youth will also be mentored by established dancers who provide instruction at one of eight local powwows in the Eastern Upper Peninsula during the summer and early fall.
