Nuns Accused Of Embezzling $500K From Catholic School to Gamble In Vegas

In what sounds like the plot of “Sister Act 3”, two nuns are accused of embezzling at least $500,000 from an L.A.-area Catholic school and using the money to fund gambling trips to Las Vegas. Sister Mary Margaret Kreuper and Sister Lana Chang were reportedly fingered by bank records that indicate they’d been scamming St. James Catholic School in Redondo Beach for at least 10 years. All the while, Kreuper–who served as the school’s principal–told parents and students they were operating on a shoestring budget. According to The Long Beach Press-Telegram, the archdiocese and the church won’t pursue criminal charges after “the nuns had expressed remorse.” School parents and alumni were made aware of the nuns’ grift at a meeting last Monday. The nuns both retired from the school earlier this year.
