Pledges still rolling in for this year’s Easter Seals Telethon
Following a successful Easter Seals Telethon on Sunday that went off-air with a tote of $102,189 for children and youth for physical disabilities, an additional $6,007.54 has been donated, raising the Sault’s total amount raised to $108,196.54.
“We would like to thank the generous citizens of our community,” said Jane Martynuck, Telethon co-host, “As a parent of an Easter Seals child, I can assure you that your donation does help make a difference in the lives of children with physical disabilities.”
Jane was joined by Easter Seals Telethon co-hosts Shannon Gowans, Tessa Vecchio, and Scott MacDonald on Shaw Spotlight, where they promoted Easter Seals, kept viewers informed, conducted interviews, and read pledges for six hours.
Shannon looks forward to the event every year, “It always makes me so proud to be a part of such a generous community. As an Easter Seals alumna, I understand how much your support means to the families we help.”
Sunday’s Easter Seals Telethon was Scott’s first year hosting. His son, Benny MacDonald, has been a guest host for five years, starting when he was Sault Ste. Marie’s local Easter Seals Ambassador. “It’s absolutely amazing what a community can achieve when it works together,” shared the Easter Seals dad. “Our achievement shows that advancing the common good within our community is something we can all do through giving, advocating and volunteering.”
“In countless ways, the support of our community continues to amaze us,” added Tessa, “it is essential to our success. Thank you Sault Ste. Marie for your kindness and generosity and for continuing to make a difference in the lives of children and youth with physical disabilities. Supporting Easter Seals is an excellent example of how great things can happen when we all work together. Together, we are helping kids be kids.”
