Sault Ste. Marie, ON (November 19, 2019) Hiawatha Highlands (Winter), is pleased to announce that limited trails are now open for trail pass holders.
“With the early snowfall this season, our groomers have been able to lay down tracks on the some of the trail systems.” Says Joanna McDougall, President of the organization.
“We have a busy season lined-up with special events and with our trail system for all levels of fitness and activities, we are anticipating an excellent Winter.”
Cross-Country Skiers, both classic and skate skiers are welcome to come up and start the season. Our groomers will post up-to-date trail conditions daily on the web site here: www.hiawathahighlands.com
We want to remind everyone that, the Hiawatha Highlands trail system, during winter months, is only open to current trail pass holders. While Hiawatha Highlands is a wonderful destination for the public in the Spring, Summer and Fall; however, in the Winter, Hiawatha Highlands is covered under land use agreements for trail pass holders only. We ask that those restrictions are respected. The trails are rented for paying cross country ski, snowshoe and fat bike customers from November to April. Fees collected from these customers are used to help maintain the trail systems throughout the year.
We also want to remind everyone that walking on the trails during the winter not only destroys the tracks, but is dangerous. Foot and dog traffic damage on the groomed trails and can cause serious injuries to customers of all ages and abilities, including the elderly, recreational skiers and elite athletes.
Those who have purchased their trail pass on-line, can have their passes processed at the on-site office (Kincentre) 7 days per week, Monday to Sunday, 10 AM – 4 PM with Wednesday and Thursday evening this week, until 9 PM.
Once we get more snow and more trails open, we will adjust our hours.

We are also excited to partner with Sault College’s Waterfront Adventure Centre, where combined, all-season outdoor passes are available. You can enjoy the recreational activities at Hiawatha in the Winter and take advantage of the court and water sporting activities at the Waterfront Centre the rest of the year. Hiawatha Highlands has once again partnered with Stokely Creek Lodge and Searchmont Resort in a reciprocating area ski pass agreement. When 2019/20 pass holders present their season’s pass to one of our partners, they will receive 25% off their daily pass and vice versa. The offer is not valid with any other offers and only during regular ski season.

Hiawatha Highlands (Winter) is a division of Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club. For over 60 years and with over 50 kms of groomed trail systems it is Ontario’s premier destination for Nordic skiing (classic and skate ski), snow shoeing and fat biking.
